The Episcopal Church Club of Philadelphia will continue the 2017-2018 season at The Acorn Club on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, when our guest speaker will be Sharon McGinley of Eddie’s House will be featured. Sharon will speak on a “Doorway to Adulthood.”

Sharon suffered a broken back more than a decade age and was pronounced clinically dead in the hospital. “While I was out of my body, the message was so clear and upsetting, she said. “I realized the only thing we leave behind is the love we give. My fear had kept me from doing that.” After her recovery, Sharon left the social circuit lifestyle behind and joined the Board of the Philadelphia Support Center for Child Advocates. It was there that she befriended Eddie, one of the many teens who have aged out of foster care and are abandoned “no more than a garbage bag full of their stuff.” She recalls the early days of building community. “These kids were laughing and joking about living with roaches, or with foster parents who chained them to radiators.” For the last 11 years, homeless teens gathered in Sharon’s home, which served as their “clubhouse.” What she dubbed “Eddie’s House” now has a new incarnation at St. Clement’s Church in Philadelphia. Sharon will speak about the new partnership, where the residents receive two years of transitional support housing.

The luncheon meeting will be at The Acorn Club, 1519 Locust Street, Philadelphia. The program will start with social hour at 12 noon, followed by the luncheon at 12:30 and then the presentation. The price for the luncheon is $35 per person. There will be a cash bar for those who wish wine or other refreshments, including non-alcoholic beverages.
